Kyoto Aquarium regrets to inform you that while bottlenose dolphin "Ten" gave birth on Monday, June 29, 2026, the baby has unfortunately passed away.
In early September 2025, during a regular blood test conducted for health monitoring, signs of pregnancy were observed in Ten, and a fetus was confirmed by subsequent ultrasound examination.
On Monday, June 29th, a drop in body temperature, a sign of impending labor, was observed, and the birth was confirmed at 11:30 PM that day. However, the baby did not swim, and it was immediately confirmed to be a stillbirth.
Ten's health is stable and there are no problems, but we will prioritize his recovery.
Please note that the dolphin stadium, which had been closed since Tuesday, June 30th for preparations for the birth of a dolphin, will reopen on Thursday, July 2nd. The dolphin program is scheduled to resume as soon as the environment is ready.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported Ten's first birth. Kyoto Aquarium will continue to cherish and properly care for animals.
