Sanshisuimei (The Beauty of Nature)

Protecting Kyoto's beautiful nature and rare species

The freshwater creatures that live in Kyoto, a city rich in water, can be broadly divided into the Yura River system and the Lake Biwa and Yodo River system. As an area blessed with water, the species of animals are extremely diverse. On display are animals that live in Mizoro Pond and the former Ogura Pond, animals connected to Lake Biwa, and animals unique to Kyoto such as the Japanese aucha perch, Yamato salamander, and Golden venus chub .
