An immersive space that recreates the sea of Kyoto
The Sea of Kyoto

The largest tank in Kyoto Aquarium
Experience a mysterious space
The museum recreates the rich The Sea of Kyoto, where a wide variety of animals live. Approximately 50 types of animals are on display, including Red seabream , grouper wrasse, sharks, and rays. The fish swimming leisurely in the large tank filled with approximately 500 tons of artificial seawater are a sight to behold. As the environment has changed in recent years, the animals that can be seen in Kyoto's seas have also changed, so the species on display are regularly reviewed to allow visitors to see the current state of Kyoto's seas.

Rooted in Kyoto's food culture
You can also meet animals
The exhibit features fish that live at depths of 50 to 150 cm, with a focus on the Horsehead tilefish, also known as "guji," a popular luxury ingredient in Kyoto cuisine. Horsehead tilefish have an ecology of digging burrows to hide in, and even within the tank you can see them building their nests and fighting over territory up close.
